Reading Goals

We've been setting reading goals in 4 key areas: comprehension, accuracy, fluency, and vocabulary. Please tell us what your goal area is (where you put your sticky note on our reading menu) and one example of how you are trying to work on this area. For example, my goal is vocabulary. I am working to improve my vocabulary by learning at least one new word each time I read and then using that word in my conversation or my writing that day!

Excel in Real-Life

Excel in Real-Life

We've been using Excel with graphing and formula tools in the computer lab. Please find an adult (it could be a parent, babysitter, neighbor, or someone else) that uses Excel for either their work or at home and report back to the class the way that this person uses this software. It will be fun to see the way that people use this program outside of school! Please use your best writing skills and complete sentences or your comments will not be accepted. Happy interviewing

Olympia Field Trip

We've spent a lot of time learning about our state's government. We were so excited to get to visit Olympia and see the branches of government and explore our capital for our first field trip. Please reflect on the blog about your favorite part of the day and one thing you saw that you had learned about in class.

International District Field Trip

After our field trip to the International District, please reflect on what you experienced there. Please respond to each question.
What was something that you want to know more about after your visit to the Wing Luke Museum?
In what ways are Pacific-Rim countries similiar and different?
How is our region connected to other Pacific-Rim regions?
Feel free to add your own favorite things about the day as well!

Big Wave Ending

We will finish the Big Wave in class tomorrow.  This is extra credit (and per Jackson's request for a post about this book).  Make a prediction about the resolution/ending of the book.  Think about all the themes and events that we have recorded on our story map to help you.

  • What happens to Old Gentleman?
  • What happens to Kino?
  • What happens to Jiya?
  • How are the possible themes we discussed yesterday shown in the book's ending?

Horse's Tale

Now that we are finished with Horse's Tale, please think back to each of the decade stories. Which story was your favorite and why? Please explain your thinking in complete sentences and using the writing traits in your response.
